I must have unknowingly put super glue between my toes because even after showering, I still feel like I have sand between my toes.
Another great trip. Some may not be aware we were traveling but regardless we are home safe. A brief novel. There are only so many ways you can write “I walked on the beach today”. But we did have a special guest to join us on the journey. Zoey.
Just the highlights…. beach walks, sunrises, moonrises, Jockey Ridge State Park, making DIY wall art, wild horses, snow crab legs/ribs, shopping local, tie-dyeing shirts, Wright Brothers.
Every trip should always include at least 1 dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts because calories don’t count when on vacation.
Jockey Ridge. Only 17 years since the last time. And the castle from the mini putt putt is still hanging strong. We didn’t see the putting green this time but the sand shifts. And no ginormous kites were being flown. But it was a great walk still. (link for previous trip)
Zoey did so great. She loved the beach and found the ocean fun. She never took an official swim but loved dipping her toes in the water, chasing waves and seafoam. With so many new scents, stopping for a quick dig before a possible snack on baby sand crab or trying to get a larger one.
Each day, the seashell collection grew by many. It was even better when I found a starfish (ALIVE!!!!) I know I should have left it, allowing it to live, but it’s not every day you find them. I get to add it to the souvenir collection. It’s going to sit next to its big brother from the Bahamas. Of course, that’s a whole other story (ask, if interested).
Let’s not talk about the many books taken for reading. Even after all these years, I still can’t get used to the ease of having Netflix for entertainment. So, while a few pages were turned, much time was spent just relaxing with Netflix streaming.
Some Googling for things to do, I found AR Workshop (for the accounting folks, it’s not Accounts Receivable). It’s a DIY shop to make fun stuff for home decorating. With some new wall art in hand, a stop at the consignment shop, I found a Vera Bradley purse. We supported the local shops with a stop in a doggy store for new shirts. Can’t wait to wear them.
We must have the best part of the beach for fishing, Each afternoon, there’s a small congregation of 4-wheel drive trucks along our beach strip. While driving along the beach sounds fun, I’m not willing to chance it with my SUV.
Though I’m not willing to drive it myself, having someone else driving in a proper vehicle, I didn’t object to. Wild Horses. A 2-hour ride in a humvee we got to see them. But besides the horses, the houses and the only way to get there was by driving on the beach.
Nothing beats walking a dog on the beach to meet friendly people. I had to explain we were “still learning our manners”. Our condo neighbor was great too. With fur babies too, instead of sharing “a cup of sugar”, we handed over an extra roll of poop bags since there were 2 of them, they had run out.
I haven’t tie dyed since being a girl scout so when I found a shop where we could, I couldn’t help myself. But waiting to see how it turned out, that’s frustrating.
We then went to the Wright Brothers park for another stroll. This time walking to the top of the hill to see the monument. I got a good family photo but the better was Zoey’s photo bomb while driving home.
Saying goodbye to what felt like paradise wasn’t easy. But with safe travels to/from, great memories, coming home can be good too.
